Setup L2TP VPN Connection on MacOS X

It will be no trouble to setup a VPN-connection via L2TP protocol on Mac OS X – the setup process is intuitively clear, and there is no need to install any additional software. After going through the steps described below VPN technology will protect data on your Macbook or iMac from malicious interceptions, will make it possible to use free Wi-Fi hotspots safely, visit online resources anonymously.

Click on Apple icon snd select System Preferences..., in appeared window click Network.

Click on "plus" icon from bottom left.

Set the following settings:

Interface - VPN
VPN Type - L2TP over IPSec
Service Name - any desired name for connection, for example SecureVPN

To continue click Create.

Set connection parameters:

Server Address - address of VPN-server to connect for. Click here to get the list of servers
Account Name - username

To proceed click Authentication Settings.

Important Note: your VPN username is placed in file readme.txt (was sent to your email after ordering the subscription).

Set accounting data and click OK:

Password - password
Shared Secret - a-secure-psk

Check Show VPN status in menu bar and click Advanced.

Check Send all traffic over VPN connection and hit ОК.

To finish click on Apply.

To establish VPN-connection click on VPN icon from status bar and hit Connect.

To break VPN-connection click on VPN icon from status bar and select Disconnect.

If you need change address of VPN server - open properties of VPN connection and set new address of VPN server, then click Apply.
